Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
As the vibrant hues of spring paint the world anew, our hearts overflow with a joy that transcends the changing seasons. We stand on the precipice of the most sacred and triumphant event in human history: the glorious Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Easter, or Eid El Qeyama as we lovingly call it in our Coptic tradition, is not merely a commemoration of a past event; it is a living reality that continues to shape our faith and our lives. It is the cornerstone of our Christian belief, the ultimate victory over sin, death, and darkness.

For forty holy days, through the blessed season of Great Lent, we have journeyed with our Lord through prayer, fasting, and repentance. We have humbled ourselves, seeking spiritual growth and drawing closer to God. We have meditated on the profound sacrifice of our Savior on the Cross, His selfless love that embraced suffering for our sake.
Now, as we approach the culmination of this sacred journey, we prepare to celebrate the glorious dawn of Resurrection Sunday. The empty tomb proclaims the defeat of death. The risen Christ shines forth as the Light of the world, offering hope and eternal life to all who believe in Him.
In our Coptic Orthodox tradition, Easter is a time of profound spiritual significance and joyous celebration. We observe this holy feast with:
- The Paschal Vigil: The pinnacle of our Lenten journey, a night filled with fervent prayers, moving hymns, and the powerful proclamation of the Gospel of the Resurrection. The atmosphere is one of anticipation and overwhelming joy as we witness the triumph of life over death.
- The Divine Liturgy of the Resurrection: Following the vigil, we partake in the Holy Eucharist, receiving the Body and Blood of our risen Lord, uniting ourselves with Him and with one another in the communion of saints.
- Festive Gatherings: Easter is a time for families and communities to come together, sharing in the joy of the Resurrection. We break our fast with celebratory meals, exchange greetings of “Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!” (Khristos Anesti! Alithos Anesti!), and rejoice in the new life that Christ has brought into the world.
- Acts of Charity and Love: As we celebrate the ultimate act of love in Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, we are called to extend that same love to our neighbors, especially those in need. Easter is a time for generosity, compassion, and acts of kindness.
Let us, therefore, approach this Holy Pascha with hearts full of gratitude and awe. Let the light of the Resurrection illuminate our souls, dispelling any darkness of doubt or despair. Let us embrace the new life offered to us through our risen Lord, living each day with the hope and joy that Easter brings.
May the peace and blessings of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” (Matthew 28:6)
Wishing you all a blessed and joyous Easter!
